The Avs have waived defensemen Greg Zanon and Matt Hunwick.

Former Avs forward TJ Galiardi has been traded by the San Jose Sharks to the Calgary Flames for a 2015 fourth-round draft pick.  The Flames signed him to a one-year $1.25 million deal.

Former head coach Joe Sacco has been hired as an assistant coach by the Buffalo Sabres.

The Avs did not give forward Aaron Palushaj a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The following are straight from Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic from today's season ticket holder teleconference, which I was privileged to be a part of.

Roy: "(Tyson) Barrie will start (with the Avs) at the beginning of the year."

Roy: "(Francois) Allaire will meet with Varly in Switzerland this summer to work on his game."

Sakic: "We're pretty sure (Nathan MacKinnon) will be on our opening night roster."

Roy: "(Nathan MacKinnon) will be on our opening night roster, there's no doubt in my mind."

Roy: "Chris Bigras could surprise everyone and make the team."

Roy: "I am not a dump-and-chase coach."

Roy: Avs D-pairings: Wilson-Johnson, Hejda-Barrie, Elliott-Sarich

Roy on goalie rankings: In the 1984 draft, the top-ranked goalie was Craig Billington. In the 3rd round, there was a guy named Patrick Roy.

Roy on Zanon and Hunwick being waived: "When you finish 29th, you want to make some changes."

Sakic: "We project that Duncan (Siemens) will start the year in Lake Erie."

Sakic: "We don't want to overpay for free agents."

Roy: "I was thinking MacKinnon could live with Jiggy. Hopefully Jiggy will be open to that."

Sakic and Roy: "We want to show transparency to our fans. Our fans are important to us."
